Last week, 830 WCCO evening host Henry Lake was one of several hundred employees laid off by Audacy amid the latest round of cuts. But the departure lasted less than a day, as Lake was back on the air Friday evening.
Lake and his producer Chris Tubbs were two of the employees included in the Audacy cuts. The heritage radio station shared that it was ending all local programming after 6 PM, except for the station’s coverage of the Minnesota Twins, where it serves as the flagship for the MLB franchise.
However, leaders at the Twin Cities cluster for the company sent a note to staffers the following day saying that Lake and Tubbs will continue in their roles with the company.
To begin his show Friday, Henry Lake said he has gone through a “roller coaster of emotions.”
“Has the last 36 hours been a little bit awkward? Not gonna sit here and lie,” Lake said. “I am thankful. I am happy to be here, happy to be speaking with you. Happy to be doing a show to all of you on this iconic radio station.”
“I feel gratitude,” he added. “I’m thankful that we’ve got good leadership here at WCCO, and the higher-ups appreciate me and Chris.”
Lake has been with 830 WCCO for the past six years after joining from iHeartMedia’s KFAN 100.3. The Lake Show with Henry Lake airs from 7-10 PM on the Audacy Minneapolis station.
