The changes at MSNBC continue as the network has announced it is adding Catherine Rampell to its primetime edition of The Weekend with Ayman Mohyeldin.
Rampell has previously served as a contributor to CNN in addition to her work as a columnist with The Washington Post.
The announcement of her addition is the first confirmation that MSNBC is adding a primetime edition of The Weekend. Mohyeldin had previously announced he was ending his primetime program amid a contract extension. It was originally speculated that he would join the popular weekend program. However, the new cast of Jackie Alemany, Eugene Daniels, and Jonathan Capehart was announced last week.
“Catherine has a remarkable talent for reporting on complex economic issues with sharp precision, while also breaking down for audiences how the policies coming out of Washington impact their daily lives,” said MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler.
“These are two crucial skills to bring to the MSNBC audience at a moment when voters – and the world – are closely watching developments with the U.S. economy,” Kutler continued. “I’m thrilled to see her take the host chair, alongside Ayman Mohyeldin, for a new prime-time edition of The Weekend we are debuting this spring.”
“I’m ecstatic to join MSNBC as a co-host of the evening edition of The Weekend alongside Ayman Mohyeldin and our soon-to-be-announced third co-host,” added Rampell. “This is a tremendous opportunity to bring my reporting to the airwaves and continue holding those in power to account. Given the economic forces likely to shape the next few years – trade wars, tax fights, safety-net cuts, federal power struggles, deportations of critical workers – there will be plenty to cover, and I can’t wait to get to work.”
The primetime edition of the show will air from 6-9 PM ET on Saturdays and Sundays. It is an expansion of the brand launched by Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez.
