On May 11, 1922, KGU Honolulu began broadcasting, marking a significant milestone as the first commercial radio station in Hawaii. Operating initially at 500 watts on 833 kHz, KGU's inaugural transmission was a simple 'Hello, hello' at 10:57 a.m., ushering in a new era of communication for the islands.
